Improvisational pianist from Taiwan
Shih-Yang LEE is one of the brightest musical talents in Taiwan. LEE has played with the main bulk of Classical and Avantgarde musicians in Taiwan. He has performed with drummer legend Sabu Toyozumi from Japan, pioneer of European free jazz pianist Fred van Hove from Belgium and many other world renowned musicians, including Sainkho Namtchylak, Koichi Makigami, Jaap Blonk, Joëlle Léandre, Luc Houtkamp, Hans Koch, John Russell, Thomas Peter, Thomas Lehn, Gene Coleman, Erik R. Lund, Mark Sanders, Christian Bucher, Guillaume Viltard, Hans Fjellestad, Tobias Delius, Carlos Zingaro, Philip Zoubek, Chino Shuichi, Umezu Kazutoki, Chie Mukai, Nobunaga Ken, Motoki Yoshinori, Darren Morre, Yong Yangdsen, Fung Chern Hwei, Ng Chor Guan, Audrey Chen, Hugues Vincent, Li Tieqiao, Luo Chao-Yun, Li Zenghui, Dickson Dee, Hui-Chun Lin and etc.. LEE has also cooperated with poets, painters, theatre like "Shakespeare’s Wild Sisters Group", and contemporary dance like "HORSE", "T.T.C. Dance", WCdance and etc..
He is the founder and co-leader of the improvisation group Ka Dao Yin. In 2012 Ka Dao Yin's first CD "Four Characters" has won the Golden Indie Music Award (TW) for "Best Jazz Album" and "Best Jazz Track". Its second CD has won the Golden Melody Award of Traditional and Art Music (TW) for "Best Crossover Music Album". LEE also get 3 nominations in Indie Music Award (TW) twice, and won the "Best Musician" in 6th and another "Best Jazz Track" in 7th.

Shih-Yang LEE is a pianist of depth and passion, style and enthusiasm whose duos with Belgian veteran Fred van Hove have been getting some very positive and well deserved responses from critics and listeners alike. His live recording with Fred van Hove "Galactic Alignment" has won the New York City Jazz Record “Honorary Mention of the new releases of 2013. LEE tours in different countries. (America, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, Holland, Belgium, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and etc..) In 2013 LEE is the first Taiwanese musician being invited for performing in the closing concert of MÉTÉO Festival Mulhouse, France, to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
LEE connect improvising musicians all over the world and help them to achieve their tour in Taiwan. He is the artist director and one of the founders of “Taiwan International Improvised Music Festival”. He has been curated several series of performances: Improv. Gathering Minifest, Primal Chaos Dance and Music Improvisation, New Music Power of Taiwan and Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong Experimental Music Connecion and etc..
