Jazz Improvise Meeting Festival 2013

After the first edition in fall last year we are happy to have the second edition on in 2013. The focus on this years JIM will be on Berlin. As Berlin became one of the most interesting hotspots in the last few years, many artists and musicians from all over the world decided to come and stay for its vivid and lively scene.

There are lots of clubs and bars, small café´s, big venues and festivals, that attract attention to both musicians and audiences. New band projects can easily be created, musicians can meet for jamsessions or open rehearsals or can play at the prestigious Berlin Jazzfestival. Berlin musicians and music became famous for their sometimes weird and funny, but always special and fresh jazzstyle, so journalists and promoters from all parts of the world are interested to see latest developments.

As in the last year, the concept of the festival is to have German bands and Chinese musicians to join in, but also to work in workshops, so that new Chinese or Chinese-German bands will be started and join forces in an inspiring mixture of Western and Eastern music.

There will be new expeditions into an instrument that is mostly unknown to most people called “Theremin”, played and by Rolf Sudmann, who is working as a professor. He will give a band workshop in Beijing and perform on this unique instrument.

Legendary freejazz artist Peter Brötzmann will give shows with his trio Full Blast and will be a special highlight, as well as will do the Clarinet Trio with 3 clarinets on stage and a quite intimate sound or Klima Kalima, a German-Finnish grooving Trio with a Nordic approach. Shanghai will furthermore host Michael Schiefel giving a workshop and solo performance and Aki Takase will perform and give a band workshop in Shenzhen. All workshop bands will perform on stage, so we can all see the results of days of intensive work.
